They talk a lot about identity which includes name, physical attributes, communal identities, etc. They focus on change in international relations, as opposed to traditional theories which focus on regularities and continuity. Constructivists attach importance to the ideational (norms, values, etc) as well as material factors like the distribution of military power. International relations is a construct that does not exist divorced from human meaning. Capitalist identity is connected to interest in profits. Post wwii cultures of germany and japan contributed to non-interventionist norms. Language is rule based on how to act in the world. On the methodological continuum, constructivism falls closely near but right before the english school, and before post structuralism & post colonial theory. And liberalism, realism, etc fall on the other side. Recognizes importance of ideational factors (norms/perceptions) as well as material factors (distribution of military power) Takes into account state and non-state actors (social groups elites)
