General Education Science of Living Systems 20 Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Human Sexual Activity, Physical Attractiveness, Slut
Document Summary
Psychological truths are truths on average: human beings like to have sex with those of the opposite gender, genes have designed the dance, but culture has added things. Selectivity: we are choosy, some are choosier than others, woman are extremely choosy, differential costs of reproduction. Male: cheap and virtually unlimited sperm, 1 minute of missed mating opportunities, low physical cost or risk. Stigma of slut inhibits some women from having partners: men can be incredibly choosy for their mates, attraction, situational factors. Despite what susan etlinger says, we understand a lot about attraction. Propinquity distance from other people, it is an incredibly good predictor of relationship, i. e. how many feet away you lived from that other person, or how close your last name is to his/hers. You sit close to the people in your alphabetical section in school. Much of the selection has been done for you by geography.
