Is there such a thing as totalitarianism? (is communist russia very similar to fascist. Communist russia is very different from fascist germany. Catholics were immunized by the nazi appeal, because they had their own communities, trade unions, clubs, etc. Catholic center party still has its votes, while other parties see their votes collapse. Protestants, white collar workers, professors, students vote for nazis. Nazis are good at addressing the particular grievances of each group. Deep resentment that the wrong people were in charge this is only sharpened by the great depression. Presence of a mass of unemployed blue collar workers. Standing on street corners like a threatening mass. Twenty blue collar workers would burst into a shop and grab stuff and go shopkeepers become law and order voters, and the nazis were the best for this. People would strip farms of the crops as well farmers become law and order voters.
