If you lose you file an appeal of something just in case, you will want to appeal. Getting an appeal to the middle court is relatively easy, but not automatic. Getting an appeal to the higher courts is hard and not automatic it has to have a degree of importance. Each state has different names for courts: in ny the low courts are called supreme, the middle are called appellate division, higher are called court of appeals.
