Document Summary

Hormones are chemicals, secreted by one cell group, that travel through the bloodstream to act on targets (brain or body) Endocrine glands release hormones within the body. Castration, or removal of the gonads (usually testes), results in behavioral and physiological changes. Oxen/steers were castrated on farms to promote calmness and avoid reproduction. Group 1 rooster was left alone and grew up normally like a rooster. Group 2 castrated and didn"t grow as robustly and didn"t present rooster like masculine behavior. Group 3 removed testes and implanted one of the gland in the abdomen (not connected to the nerve) and grew up normally like a rooster (cant reproduce, but physiologically behavior was unchanged) Nerve connection to testes isn"t responsible for development. Chemicals released into blood that affect male behavior and body. Also, sensitive period do testes implant in adult roosters and it doesn"t work as well.
