Document Summary

Location: areolar tissue, intermuscular (between muscles) regions, bone & around organs. Areolar tissue: between muscles, glands, wraps around blood vessels/nerves. Adipose tissue: under skin, around kidneys, and heart. Function: insulation, cushions, supports, provides an energy source. Insulation: fat cells distributed throughout our bodies to keep us warm. Cushion: cushions organs to prevent force trauma. Dense/compact = cells are packed parallel on top of each other. Location: tendons, ligaments (bone to bone), aponeuroses. Aponeuroses: thin sheets of translucent connective tissue somewhat like tendon. Ex: when we flex our calves muscles it pulls on dense connective tissue. Function: withstands great tensile strength in parallel direction. Returns to original shape (except ear gages) Lacks blood vessels & nerves which has less access to nutrients. 3 different types of connective tissue differ in location. Articulations points in the body one bone connected to another. Three types of muscle tissue that vary in structure, location, and whether they are voluntary or involuntary.
