What is love? (sternberg) made of 3 components-intimacy, passion, and commitment. You don"t have love if you don"t have all 3. Intimacy- feeling of closeness and connectedness and bonding with someone; sharing secrets and info you share with the person that you don"t share with others. Passion- the drive that leads to romance; physical attraction or sex; Commitment-also called decision, the decision that one is in a love relationship and commitment to maintain it. Whats interesting about the theory is what do you have if you only have 1 or 2 out of 3. If you don"t have any of these, you don"t have love- non love. The relationship you have with a random person is non love. You have this but not passion or commitment. This is liking. this is what happens in friendships that are casual. You are close and share info but have no physical attraction.
