Symbolic interaction the study of human beings interacting symbolically with each other and with themselves, and in the process of that symbolic interaction making decisions and directing their streams of action. Focuses on the nature of interaction: the dynamic social activities taking place between persons. Societies are made up of interacting individuals. Interaction is not simply what is happening between people, but also what is happening within the individual: words and language act as symbols. Human being interpret things: people are motivated to make the world meaningful and act based on those meanings. All of nature is a process: all things in nature should be thought of as constantly in a state of change, people are also going through constant changes the individual is not a consistent structured personality. Reality is socially defined and socially constructed. Reality is social: what we see out there (and within ourselves) is developed in interaction with others.
