Political culture: refers to widely shared ideas of who should govern, for what ends, and by what means. It is the psychology of the nation in regards to politics. 1) values are culturally shared, mostly agreed upon ideas about what is good & desirable. Values provide standards of what is right & wrong. 2) beliefs are shared ideas about what is true ex: pollution is bad. Then the value is we should do something to address the pollution issue. In political culture, values & beliefs are often related 1) beliefs can justify values. If we believe that the environment is in danger, we"ll create policies that protect it, or not. If we think it"s important, the knowledge of its destruction will lead to agreement that we should do something about it. Ex: we"ll create policies that lead to cleaner air, water, etc. 2) shared beliefs and values are the basis of the american political culture.
