COMST 325 Lecture Notes - Lecture 5: Vasodilation, Vasoconstriction, Mirror Neuron
Document Summary
Attribution theory: how and why we process information. Attribute meaning to other"s actions: embodied cognition. From early infancy, thinking activates centers in the nervous system responsible for movement. Activity of the mind is always linked both to sensory processing and centers for motor control. If you take a drink, certain neurons are activated. If you see someone else drink, the same neurons are activated (monkey see, monkey do) When we hear an action sentence, we visualize the action (mirror neurons) Ironic process theory: mental control - thought suppression, two processes. Brain checking in to see if the thought in question has stopped: still nodding even when you"re saying no because you"re lying and your body is releasing tension. Vocal tone: body is most "leaky" Deception-related anxiety may lead to increased manipulators. The nature of emotional experience: adaptive response, affective response, physiological response, cognitive response.
