Studying insects is a large task; there are so many of them. Insects are the most plentiful and most diverse group of animals on earth today both in numbers of species and numbers of individuals. There are over one million known and named species of insects in the world. By some estimates there may be more than 100,000 different kinds in north america alone. This course will consider the diversity and some unique features of these animals. They may not have backbones and be all warm and furry, but they are animals. This course concludes with an overview of the methods used by humans to attempt to reduce insect populations.
