Posttraumatic stress disorder (ptsd: a chronic and debilitating disorder that develops following a traumatic event. 1 in 3 women are survivors of domestic abuse. National council on alcoholism and drug dependence (ncadd) Violence in family of origin: learned helplessness. Shelters: access, assault care center, ames, ia, women may return, cycle repeats tension building to explosion to honeymoon and reward, burnout amongst staf members. 5 children die everyday, or 1,800 children per year. 75% of children who die each day of child abuse are under the age of four. Appears as a pattern of failing to provide for a child"s basic needs, whether it be adequate food, clothing, hygiene, or supervision. Warning signs: clothing are ill-fitting, filthy, or inappropriate for the weather, poor hygiene, frequently unsupervised or left along, frequently late or missing from school, begs or steals food.
