Brits top in europe at tv-viewing (3. 8h/day) but are behind americans (4. 6/day: deregulation of broadcasting led to a mixed system of commercial and public service networks and stations. Public service channels are required by law to present interested, comprehensive, and politically balanced content. Programming reqs for private media are less strict. European press models: american model - most dailies are local and for profit. A lot of specialized press: british model, centralized - uk is, next to japan, the only country with a truly national press.
