Document Summary

Eric and tatyana abbott"s presentation on russia"s mass media brought about many interesting insights. Although, there was one viewpoint that stood out most to me. I personally do not believe there is a free mass media. My personal view of russia"s and the united states" mass media are very similar. Tatyana was raised in russia and was taught that she lived in the best country of all. Growing up during the soviet time, she was exposed to the amenities of russia including free education, medical services and guaranteed jobs. In russia, the mass media serves the interests of the people, but all media is government owned and run. This includes specialized magazines for youth, women, farmers and workers. Also, all tv stations and programs are state controlled. Unlike russia, the united states values the concept of living in country with a free marketplace of ideas.
