His theory (8 stages - person vs. systems around them): caregiver - infant and toddler years. Kids will have no trust if no one takes care of them as a baby. Erikson mainly focused on romantic supported relationships - but more more goes into young adult lives today. Person consists of connections between stimulus inputs (hearing a direction), behavioral responses (following it) and consequences (reward/punishment) Ex. behaviorism (skinner) and cognitive social learning. Continuous, reciprocal interactions between persons and environment. Everything we do is caused by an action and is reciprocated by a response. We reinforce ourselves w/mental praise or criticism determine how a child understands the world.
