Document Summary

Uterine/ovarian cycle, if this events starts here when would you expect this event (if implantation occurs at this day, what day would the secondary oocyte have been available - about one week prior) Fsh stimulates 16-20 primordial follicles to become primary follicles. Each primary follicle contains a single primary oocyte surrounded by a group of granulosa cells. The granulosa cells secrete glycoproteins that form a membrane called the zona pellucida or oolemma around the oocyte. In response to fsh, granulosa cells and other cells within the primary follicle begin secreting estrogen into the blood. In addition, the granulosa cells secrete liquid that begins accumulating inside the follicle. Over the next 8-10 days, usually all but one of the primary follicles formed during this ovarian cycle disintegrate. By about day 10, the one remaining follicle has become a secondary follicle, identified by having visible, fluid filled regions. Secondary follicle continues to grow over the next few days and secretes more estrogen.
