Document Summary

Ventricles are continuous with one another and with the cavity in the spinal cord - central canal. Lined with ependymal cells and filled with cushioning csf. Cavities within the right and left cerebral hemispheres. From the anterior view, the lateral ventricles resemble ram"s horns. From the lateral view, they are horseshoe-shaped. Have 3 regions anterior horn, inferior horn, and posterior horn. Housed between the two lobes of the diencephalon continuous with the lateral ventricles via an opening called the interventricular foramen. Fourth ventricle third ventricle drains into the fourth ventricle via the cerebral aqueduct, a small canal that passes through the midbrain of the brainstem. Situated between the pons and the cerebellum. Continuous inferiorly with the central canal of the spinal cord. Contains several posterior openings that allow csf in the ventricles to flow into the subarachnoid space. Clear, colourless liquid similar in composition to plasma.
