Had to pinpoint how much light goes into dark room. Estimates of how much dot of light is moving converged over time (informational social influence) Participants did task individually and settled on a stable estimate. Came back 3 days alter and did the task in 3-person groups (but don"t discuss w each other) Autokinetic effect: illusion: the dot doesn"t move but if stared at it long enough, one will think it moves. Even if others are strangers we want to conform, then if it"s our family, friends the desire to fit in is even stronger. Participants made judgments on a bunch of lines.
