Document Summary
Keep all variables constant but change the iv (and only the iv) in a predictable way to see how it influences the dv. This was a 2x3 between subjects design this tells you that there are 2 independent variables one iv has 2 levels (or conditions) the other iv has 3 levels (or conditions) Each number is an iv, and the value of that number is the number of levels. So 2 x 3 x 2 x 4 means there are 4 iv"s, the first has 2 levels, the second has 3 levels, the third has 2 levels, and the fourth has 4 levels. Between subjects design: means each participant was only exposed to one set of conditions. Within subjects design: means each participant was exposed to all of the conditions. Mixed design: means each participant was exposed to all levels of one iv, but only one level of the other iv.
