Parents who have full control of selecting process. Driven by economics transaction of $ Negotiation w/ those who are arranging family. Making sure bride is well taken care of. Finance (money given by groom"s family to bride"s) Material goods jewelry, gifts, clothing, etc. Groom"s family will arrange settlement to her. Divorce acts as a deterrent to divorce. If family wants it, then places amount to keep family together makes sure that this person who become groom will never divorces. Parents still exercise control over selection of marriage. Input is sought from the prospective bride & groom. Some families allow the couple to veto their parent"s choice. How a functionalist would analyze it = analyze it through function; how is it analyzed = allows person to have children, such as those who can"t get pregnant or gay couples, surrogates have a job in society. Privileged has economic benefits that allow them to afford new reproductive technologies.
