Labeling theory how the self-identity and behavior of individuals may be determined or influenced by the terms used to describe or classify them: associated with self-fulfilling prophecy and stereotyping. Once labeled, it is difficult to change your label. Attribution the process by which individuals explain the causes of behavior and events: one can attribute the behavior of others to internal or external causes. Both concepts relate to the way in which society, or at least the people around us, play an important part in shaping who we are. Looking glass self point of view of the individual: how we interpret and respond to the reactions of others around us. How we respond to what we image those reactions are. Labeling theory people are labeled and treated in ways that fit that label: over time, the person begins to behave in a way that fits the label and begins to feel like that sort of person.
