Document Summary

A rule that takes certain numbers as inputs and assigns to each definite output number. The set of all input #"s is called the domain. The set of all resulting output #"s is called the range. The rule of four: tables, graphs, formulas, and words. A mathematical model is a mathematical description of a real situation. When y = f(t), it is known that y is a function of t. The graph of a function has an intercept where it crosses the horizontal or vertical axis. Horizontal intercepts are also called zeros of the function. Ex: a) graph the cricket chirp rate function, c = f(t) = 4t -160. Solve f(t) = 0 and interpret the result. Slope = rise/run = y/ x = (y2 - y1)/(x2-x1) rtical. Slope = rise/run = y/ x = (y2 - y1)/(x2-x1) Linear form - y = f(x) =mx + b. Where m = slope, and both m & b are constants.
