We will focus on three core approaches within the study of comparative politics. 1: people act out of shared values, norms, and the power of identities- cultural approach (culturalist) Institutions or social structure (class, where you sit in the economy)- 3. structural approach, can only act in a certain set of rules ex: all people who are civil servants will act in a particular way (structrualists) Approach- a theoretic tool or research tradition that embodies a distinct set of assumptions about: basic motivations of individuals, the relationships between individuals and groups.
