Modified: single letter in color of word-- rest all black. Had to namecolor of letter: reduced stroop effect but increased overall rxn times. Interpretation 1: reduced stroop because participant inhibited automatic response of reading word bc had to direct attention to single letter. Overall rxn in letter task suggest inhibting automatic response costed participants something. Have automatic response of braking at red light, would not in other cities that used other color light for stop. Rarely encounter groups of letter that arent supposed to read word they represent. *** practice & mapping are both nessecary in order for process to be automatic-- just 1 without other wil not become automatic. Answered in 2 ways in literature-- not each mutually exclusive.
