Racism is a powerful system of assigning unequal meaning and value to these categories. The trick is to analyze the impact of race as a category (in posiive and negaive ways) without reifying it. Through language we can: perform our ideniies (conscious or not). Idenity is parially about us we construct our own idenity. One has an idenity only in relaion to someone else.
