To exercise symbolic power, the person(s) exercising it must be recognized as legiimate. Charismaic-people obey because of the personal qualiies of an individual (of their leadership) (jfk) Legal-raional-the oice they ill gives them the right to give orders (police) Poliical power-how agents create, compete, and use power to atain goals that are presumed to be for the good of a community, the common good. Recognize that people have roles that they occupy in poliics: it is not enough to be the chief of a village. Big men : poliical leaders who do not occupy formal oices and whose leadership is based on inluence.
