Data modeling- a process used to deine and analyze data requirements needed to support the business data. Eniies-something we want to track: can be physical object or logical transacion, have atributes that describe its characterisics, usually three diferent types of eniies. Ideniier- an atribute whose value is associated with one and only one occurrence of the enity. Enity-relaionship diagram (erd: shows eniies that will be in the database and relaionships between eniies. The amount of data increases exponenially over ime. Data are generated from muliple sources (internal, personal, external) Data security, quality, and integrity are criical. Legal requirements change frequently and difer among countries and industries.
