So, although some can get away with deviance, some get picked out. Develop identity of deviance and then subsequent the deviance that happens after that happens because of the identity, not whatever caused the initial rule breaking. These are the people who were picked out and then have a deviant identity which causes more deviance. Residual rule-breaking: when we break social rules, the rules we are breaking get lumped into different categories. He says there are some behaviors that don"t get a person lumped.
