Basic human behaviors are also found in closely related primates, however humans have made them more complicated they"re not different behaviors, just more complicated. Chimps can"t form sounds like humans can. Can only form vowels and certain consonants: washoe the chimp (1965 2007) Raised washoe like a human child to give her the same opportunity human children have to develop language. Sign language: by the time she was an adult, she acquired 350 signs (her vocabulary) Used language to talk about things that happened in the past or what she thought would happen in the future. Her language wasn"t limited to the here and now. When she had a child, she tried teaching him sign language: her son didn"t catch on very well, koko the gorilla (researcher: penny patterson) Productive language: if koko doesn"t know a sign for something, she"ll create her own sign for it.
