Russia begins its trademark slash and burn technique, as they draw the germans deeper and deeper into the country, then winter hits and germans stuck: battle of stalingrad (1. 8 million dead) City warfare- not often seen as most fighting took place taking city block by city block, and fighting for apartment buildings and other large structures. Germans defeated and retreat, while the russians begin to chase the fleeing. Deadliest battle in the history of the war.
