Document Summary
Defining and measuring variables: conceptual definitions. A response intended to inflict pain or discomfort or use of threat or force to a territory not of one"s own . Both definitions are right, the important thing is to make yourself clear: hypothetical constructs. Theoretical attributes/mechanisms that help explain or predict behavior. May not be directly observed, but may be associated with something that can be. Ex: iq or hunger; because both of these things can"t be physically measured: operational definitions. Not the same as a construct, but rather an interpretation of the construct: conceptual hypothesis. Predictions about relations between two or more concepts. Ex: exercise produces weight loss: operational hypothesis. Specific predictions about relationships between two or more precisely defined concepts.
