PSYC 2300 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Concurrent Validity, Construct Validity, Face Validity
Document Summary
3 common modalities and limitations: self-report (sr) Participants can be dishonest: physiological measures (pm) Doable but you need intrusive equipment: ex: taking blood, being hooked up to machines, behavioral measures (bm) Doable but behavior may be situational and only represent a portion of the entire construct. Validity: accuracy of results; does it measure what its suppose to measure, types of validity. What is being measured is pretty obvious: ex: 2+2=____________, ex: strongly agree, agree, disagree, strongly disagree type tests. When might we not want face validity: if it might influence people"s answers. Two types of construct validity: convergent. Ex: self-esteem is related to self-worth/confidence: divergent. Ex: self-esteem does not relate to political orientation. Reliability: stability or consistency of measure, assessing reliability depends on measures, assessing reliability. Test-retest reliability: same test at two different times. Parallel forms reliability: similar versions of test at two different times. Split-half reliability: split on test in half.
