Even suicide is driven by social facts. Suicide is not just a matter of mental distress/psychopathology. Social integration: the number and strength of social ties significantly impact an individual"s risk of committing suicide, relationships and feelings that bind people together in the group. Refers to the level of restrictions that the group places on the individual. Like slavery (even though it is an extreme example) o. Egotistic: it has to do with the self. They are not anchored enough in their group to have ties to keep them here. When individuals feel there is no more meaning in the world. Usually happens in a world where there are no more norms in place usually when an abrupt change happens over night such as a revolution. Groups: two or more people interacting in predictable ways. Institutions: stable and predictable social arrangements created over time to meet some societal need.
