Evolved as a response to the strong, and often negatively perceived influences of the media in our lives. Began due to fear of corruption in teenage children back in the days of old hollywood/music. If they see it, they"ll do it! if they hear it, they"ll do it! . Low levels of media literacy create the belief that art is the same as life. Columbine- could have been avoided if people realized they needed help. Exists because of conflict and controversy about media practices and issues, and how they affect us individually and as a society. Critical skill that almost anyone can develop: actively read the media rather than passively submit to their influences. How to use media content, how to access it, how to use tech involved in media content creation and use. Millennials are media natives, older generations are media immigrants. Surveillance: getting news and info to learn what"s happening in your environment.
