Why is the definition important: consider proposed criteria for disorders, how the task force defines each disorder (and whether or not they decide to make it an official disorder listed in the dsm to begin with) Impacts clinicians (in terms of diagnosis and conceptualization: symptoms, physical signs to look for, other mental or behavioral characteristics. Impacts clients: could be a positive or negative impact on clients. Dsm-5: dsm-5 (2013) made many changes, first substantial revision in 20 years. Involved experts separate from the work group who were asked to review research literature and look for research evidence on the proposed revisions: field trials. Information given to public for feedback: communication with the world health organization (who, who publishes the international classification of diseases (icd)- primary way that diseases (mental health and other health-related problems) are classified outside of the us.
