One of the richest many works of literature + ideas about literature + culture. Very little consents when romantic period starts and when it ends. Many events that are seen as the beginning of the period: 1776 american independence, 1789 french revolution, 1798 publication of lyrical ballads, 1832 reform act, 1837 coronation of queen victoria. 2 revolutions: sparked fundamental debates about the rights of individual + shaped the literature of this period: democracy, human rights, political participation. Many scholars have seen the real beginning at the publication of a ground-breaking collection of poems: lyrical ballads (wordsworth + coleridge) Two different historical dates as end dates: queen victoria"s coronation: victorian period, 1832: reform bill widened political participation by increasing the number of men that are allowed to vote.
