Idea gained reinforcement when freud examined his own free associations during personally difficult time after his father"s death. Psychoanalytic psychotherapy: first freud saw his task as straightforward: encourage free association, sometimes, treatments ended disastrously, as in case of ida brauer/dora. Increasingly found that unconscious resistance of patients could be very subtle.
