Because managers feel ill equipped to navigate the constantly changing technologies, they involve themselves less and less with it. Also, a lot of it projects fail, finish later than expected and run over budgets. Only 10% of the companies felt they benefited from the implementation of it. Therefore, executives try to delegate, outsource, rent, rationalize minimize, and generally remove it form their already long list of concerns. Executives have three roles to play in managing it: they must help select technologies, nurture their adoption, ensure their exploitation. Managers must tailor their roles to the technologies they"re using; they don"t need to do all these 3 each time they buy a new technology.
