CINEMA 3 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Motor System, Dementia, Anti-Gravity
Document Summary
The motor system includes all our muscles and the neurons that command them. The spinal cord contains certain motor programs for the generation of coordinated movements and these programs are accessed by descending commands from the brain. The spinal cord commands and controls coordinated muscle contraction. The brain commands and controls the motor programs in the spinal cord. Plays a role in movement of material through the intestines and control of blood pressure. Contracts rhythmically, when there is no innervation. Exhilaration or slowing down of the heart rate is achieved by the innervation of the heart muscle from the ans. Skeletal muscle = bulk of muscle mass in body. Moves bones around joints, eyes within head, controls respiration, facial expressions, produces speech. Each muscle is surrounded by a connective tissue sheath that forms the tendons at the end of the muscle. 100s of muscle fibers within each muscle (cells of the muscle)
