Document Summary

Check the divisions of the brain and the functions of different parts as stated in taks 2a. A totally developed mammalian brain consists of : forebrain: telencephalon(1) and diencephalon(2, midbrain: mesencephalon(3, hindbrain: metencephalon(4) and myelencephalon(5, the telencephalon is the largest part of the brain, mediating the brain"s most complex functions. It iniates voluntary movement, interpreters sensory input, and mediates complex cognitive processes. The cerebral hemispheres are covered by layer of tissue called the cerebral cortex. Mammals have convolutions what means that the increasing the amount of brain doesn"t mean an increase in the total volume of the brain. Mammals that don"t have these convolutions are lissencephalic (smooth- brained). The bumps in the cortex are called gyri. The grooves are called sulci or fissures, when they are deeper. These bumps and grooves for everybody, but there are a small number that are the same for everybody and are in that sense "landmarks"".
