Impacts on migration, trade (quicker & further), communications, military & naval strategy and upon european colonial expansion. Railways: provided a means of mobilizing the resources of continental-scale countries (usa, russia, India: first transcontinental railroad linked the east and west coasts of the usa, 1869, 1891-1916 construction of the trans-siberian railway connecting moscow with the far east.
