Document Summary

In the analysis phase you determine how the current is functions and assess what users would like to see in a new system. There are two sub phases of analysis as part of the sdlc: (i) requirements determination (ch6), and (ii) requirements structuring (ch7). Although there are two distinct sub-phases they should be considered as parallel and iterative (i. e. as you determine some aspects of the desired system, you build prototypes to show the user how the system might behave. Inconsistencies with the prototype may lead to discovering further requirements for the system). During requirements determination, system analysts should gather information about what a system should do from as many sources as possible. This gathering information can be done by: talking to users of the current system; observing users of the current system; reading reports from the system; reading forms and other procedures. After the necessary information has been gathered, all the system requirements are documented and prepared for structuring.
