PHYSICS 102 Lecture Notes - Lecture 10: Grounded Theory, Qualitative Property, Nvivo
Document Summary
We analyse the data we have collected with different aims, such as : describing social behaviours, experiences, attitudes, perceptions Inferring meaning from our data to broader/abstract processes: questioning previous assumptions (maybe from the literature/common knowledge) about a particular issue. Analytical induction starts with a definition of a rq and the hypothetical explanation of that issue when we design our project. The stages of inductive analysis are as follows: we depart from one hypothetical explanation of a research question, collect our data, examine our data, results: If our data confirms our hypothesis our thesis is validated. If we find cases that do not prove our hypothesis we reformulate hypothesis. Grounded theory (glaser and strauss 1967 in bryman 2004): theory is derived from data- data collection and analysis happen simultaneously. Repetition of three previous steps until we reach saturation. Qualitative data is messy- organisation is a crucial step before our analysis.
