Signs and symptoms: objective, mouth odor, mouth breathing. Limit visitors: encourage breastfeeding, nasal saline, bulb suction, offer fluids, monitor spo2. Symptoms: fever, cough, crackles on auscultation, malaise, respiratory distress, gi symptoms. Management: promote oxygenation, comfort, anti pyretics, monitor fluid intakes, antimicrobial therapy. Classic signs of asthma exacerbation: dyspnea, wheezing, coughing. Signs of severe respiratory distress: child is profusely sweating, remains upright, refuses to lie down. Management: allergen control, peak flow monitoring, drug therapy. Short acting = rescue: corticoisteroids, beta adrenergic agonists, anticholinergic.
