Document Summary

Not nature vs nature, but nature and nurture. Were born as animals and were nurtured within our culture. Holistic-everything all at once, more than the sum of all its parts. Integrating oneself into the population they are observing. Ethnography- a report written about the time an anthropologist spent in the field. Concepts of culture: core anthropological concept, beliefs, practices, values, culture-the ability to engage in complex interactions/ cultures- the hippie culture, the rap culture, native americans. Society focuses more on institutions: ethnocentrism- my culture is better than yours. Or we are the best: cultural relativism- to see how the logic or mislogic of another culture developed. Nazi germany, but that doesn"t mean we condone their actions (not the absence of ethics!) Learned- nothing to do with biology, you learn from your parents and peers: shared, patterned-consistencies within a culture, dynamic- changing, evolving. The 60"s are vastly different from the present day: adaptive, symbolic.
