Document Summary

Characteristics of cell division: faithfully passed along to the next generation of cells. Role of cell division is reproduction, growth, and repair. Cell division the process in which the genetic information of a cell is. Asexual reproduction the type of reproduction involving only one parent. It: replication of dna, equal distribution of dna to opposite ends of the dividing cell, separation into two daughter cells produces genetically identical offspring, budding, binary fission. Binary fission the type of cell division which prokaryotes use to reproduce. In bacteria since there is only a single chromosome the cell cycle is less complex. If the organism is single-celled then a cell cycle can be the same as the life cycle grows, and prepares to divide again. In eukaryotes, each round of growth and division make up a cell cycle. Cell cycle a well-ordered sequence of events during which the cell divides: interphase the period of the cell cycle when the cell is not dividing.
