Protozoans: were given their name, because biologist hypothesized that they were a form of. Cells that are part of a multicellular organism specialize in specific tasks, while relying on other cells to do the task they no longer do. In doing this the group of cells become reliant on each other for survival. A liver cell is not able to live on its on, while a protozoan is. Fungal protist: decompose a dead organism into something useful for itself and the environment. They play an important role in keeping the ecosystem in balance. The protists can be organized into eight general groups. However there is a good deal of uncertainty about the evolution of these groups. Although kingdom protista is called a kingdom in it exists much diversity, and it is likely they will split up into several groups. The answer is horizontal and lateral gene transfer. They are very different from prokaryotes, but are quite similar to eukaryotes.
