Family is a unity made up of individual, interacting personalities. Family of orientation- family into which you are born; you are a child. Family of procreation- family into which you have children; you are the parent thus a new nuclear family. Extended family- beyond the nuclear family; the family tree. Monogamy- traditional marriage is one man, one woman, one time. Serial monogamy- more than one marriage in a lifetime, although still one at a time. The family of social construction is the family created to serve the nurturance and acceptance needs of the individual. Same sex family is not legal in all states. Changes that have occurred to families over the years (changing family demographics): Families as a household numbers are down because divorce and people getting married. Cohabitation couples this increase is one of the most significant in family life in the later. Married with children down because of the decrease in the marriage rates.
