Ethos, logos, pathos: ethos authority, logos logic, pathos emotion. What defines character: the virtues we hold, practical wisdom to make good decisions, goodwill. Inherited ethos: reputation of the speaker. Persona: greek for mask , represents the constructed ethos of a speaker, the persuasion, style, language, delivery, personal stories. Evoked audience: attractive image of the audience a speaker constructs of & for the audience in order to encourage it to act according to that image, symbolic interaction. Identification: creating a common bond with the audience by drawing parallels between characteristics of audience and speaker, being relatable. Distinction: the attempt to establish credibility by the possession of special knowledge and/or experience that are superior to the audience, i have experience that you don"t have . Polarization: dividing the audience into a positive us and a negative them in order to create unity through difference.
