ENGL 2027 Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: Assonance
Document Summary
He feels as if when someone commits suicide, it isn"t about them or their memory, it"s about the people who they were surrounded with and how they feel and what they think. It shows us how important our mind is over our bodies. It"s like when people commit suicide, it"s sad but it gives people an escape. He also compares rain to memory, and says how they both are lost and utterly forgotten. I feel as if he named the poem what he did, because he is trying to rearrange the thoughts and stories in his head from that day. I think the poet is experiencing a heartbreak or hardship in life, and he"s presenting that through talking about don finding out his lover has a deadly disease. He is in a bad place, causing his thoughts to be all over and him to be up at late hours of the night.
